The California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) today announced the final approval of the state's CPRA and additional CCPA amendments, effective immediately. The final step went through the state's Office of Administrative Law (OAL), and clarifies new rights and concepts introduced by the CPRA to make implementation of the law easier.

These amendments also reorganize and consolidate requirements within the law to make compliance easier to understand, while still putting consumers in a position where they can knowingly and freely negotiate with a business over the business’s use of the consumer’s personal information.

Although nothing in these amendments dramatically change the CPRA modifications approved back in October 2022, California bureaucracy has moved more slowly than other states when it comes to data privacy regulation, as the Golden State seeks to ensure it leads the way on protecting consumers' data rights in the United States.

With the law fully effective now, enforcement of the CPRA will begin on July 1, 2023, as planned.
